In part 1, we took at look at what a responsive website is and how it differs from a mobile website. We also looked at some important stats recorded in 2016, that show just how many American’s are shopping with their mobile devices. If you haven’t read part 1, go ahead and click here to read it, then come back and read this.

Not having a responsive website in 2017 affects your business site’s SEO Ranking

Google is a pretty smart search engine, and the team behind the most-used search engine in the world realized pretty quickly that people would be using phones and tablets to access the web, do their shopping, send emails, etc. So in 2015, Google launched “Mobilegeddon”! Sounds bad, right? Well, it is for business owners that still don’t have a responsive website! You see, when Google recognized that most people now use their mobile devices to access the internet, it edited its algorithm in a big way.

The new update to the Google algorithm ranks websites with responsiveness higher. Google is trying to make its search engine as human-like as possible, so if we would rather look at a responsive website instead of a non-responsive site, Google would too. That’s the main reason Google now considers a responsive site to be crucial to helping customers get the most relevant results from it. So if your business website isn’t responsive and you can still see users coming to it via it’s a high position in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages), wait a while. Google will drop your site and replace it with your competition. Harsh words, but someone’s got to tell it to you straight!

Response websites reduce your bounce rate

We build responsive websites here at Locus to be responsive on multiple devices, and one of the biggest reasons we do that is to help with the retention rate, or as most people call it, the “Bounce Rate”. Bounce rate is another factor that may influence how Google ranks your website. But that’s not all. Your bounce rate impacts how easily customers can navigate through your site. If tour customers are having a hard time navigating, there’s little chance of getting a conversion, or better yet, sale.

Well over half your traffic comes from mobile devices

That’s right! If you have your website hooked into Google Analytics, take a look at which devices are sending traffic to your site. In most cases, 65% of business websites from across the United States are getting their traffic from mobile devices such as an iPhone and Samsung S6 and S7.
