6 key reasons why your website should be responsive

“But my website is responsive! My users click on a menu link and the website loads the page the user wants to visit”

If only that was what was meant by the term “responsive”. Unfortunately, having a responsive website doesn’t mean that your website responds to user actions, although if you do want to make sales, your website should be responding to the users’ action.

What responsive means, is that your website looks great on any mobile device. If your users need to pinch their iPhone (or other phone) screen and stretch the screen so as to see what it is you’re wanting to say on your site, then you don’t have a responsive website.

Why should we care too much about mobile users of my website?

The simple reason is that mobile internet usage has been skyrocketing over the last few years. In fact, mobile usage surpassed desktop usage towards the end of 2014. But even with this overwhelming evidence, there are still tons of websites (both business and person) that aren’t yet catering to the vast array of mobile users.

A term was coined for websites that aren’t yet mobile-friendly, and that phrase is “unresponsive”, or as we like to call it here at Locus, “A Dud”. Harsh? Probably, but that’s what a non-responsive website is… a dud. If a website is losing users because they’d rather spend their time on a website where they don’t have to contort their fingers like it’s 2005, trust me, it’s a dud. Non-responsive websites aren’t only causing a headache for users, but also a loss in business opportunities. If you own a store and you have 300 people walking through your doors every week, you know that you’re going to make sales. If potential customers stop walking through your door, you’re going to have a problem.

In this post and the next, we’re going to explain why having a responsive website is so critical to your marketing and sales, plus we’ll share some top-secret Locus Visual Arts tips you’ll need to keep in mind when designing a responsive website.

Let’s get to it with some undeniable reasons your website needs to be responsive!

Mobile usage is off the charts!

As you can see from the chart above, mobile usage surpassed desktop usage in 2014. We’re now towards the end of 2016 and the trend has continued. Over 65% of the traffic generated on websites is caused by mobile usage. There you have it. If you still don’t have a responsive website, you’re losing out on the biggest pool of traffic. More traffic equals more sales!

In the next blog post, we’re going to look at the remaining 5 reasons why you need a responsive website, and what you can do to ensure it’s the best damn responsive site around!
